Wadaiko (taiko) are traditional Japanese drums whose sound has been inseparably linked to community life for centuries. They are more than music — they are a physical and emotional experience, a rhythm born from breath, movement, and inner strength. In Japanese tradition, taiko accompanies festivals (matsuri), harvest celebrations, rites of passage, and moments of shared joy. Playing taiko engages life energy, uniting focus, rhythm, and physical motion. The sound of the drums can calm, strengthen, and uplift, echoing the heartbeat and reconnecting us with what truly matters.
In this sense, wadaiko is music from the heart: direct, sincere, and profoundly human. It requires no complex melodies, relying instead on the most fundamental element of all — the rhythm of life that unites us all.
Wadaiko Yosa-Yosa was founded in Prague in 2005 as a taiko club of the Czech–Japanese Society. The group follows a traditional approach to taiko inspired by Japanese folk festivals, bringing the vibrant energy of this art form to audiences in the Czech Republic.
