Izumo Shôchô - nihon buyó

Having studied from an early age under Akaneya Izumo is an expressive dance style generally referred to as Nihon Buyō, representing a classical form of Japanese dance art. It evolved from earlier dance traditions such as mai and odori and flourished during the early Edo period, as well as through the dances of Kabuki theatre. Its distinctive gestures, refined use of the fan, and traditional costumes serve to convey the narratives of the accompanying songs, forming a highly sophisticated stage art.

Ms. Izumo has devoted herself to this art from an early age under the guidance of the principal master Izumo Shōsen of the Akane-ya Izumo school, and she continues to develop it with deep dedication. In Japan, she works as a dance instructor based in Tokyo. Since 2017, she has also expanded her activities to the United States and Europe, where she participates in official cultural events, university master classes, and international programs such as Japan Week.

This Prague appearance marks her second participation, following the 2024 Eigasai Film Festival.
