Haruo is a middle-aged man, a husband, a father of three and a long-time supermarket worker. He desires to excel but is an extraordinarily average person. As an employee, he enjoys trust on the part of both his seniors and co-workers, yet he doubts he has the character traits required for him to be the manager he secretly longs to be. He speaks in internal monologues in is head but stays quiet outwardly. His only vice is a restaurant where he secretly goes for curry after work. This is the only place he can voice his concerns openly and aloud. The comedy of a man who battles his own tendency to favour others to his own detriment will make you laugh and, hopefully, think about impossible dreams. Even his attempt at impressing his daughter’s boyfriend does not go as planned, but Haruo still remains a beloved father to his family. Only the grandparents’ visit eventually leads to the revelation that he has actually been a hero to his loved ones for a very long time even though nobody ever mentioned this.
