Izumo Shô Chô - nihon buyó

Having studied from an early age under Akaneya Izumo is an expressive dance style generally referred to as Nihon Buyō, representing a classical form of Japanese dance art. It evolved from earlier dance traditions such as mai and odori and flourished during the early Edo period, as well as through the dances of Kabuki theatre. Its distinctive gestures, refined use of the fan, and traditional costumes serve to convey the narratives of the accompanying songs, forming a highly sophisticated stage art.

 

Headmaster Izumo Shōsen of the Akane-ya Izumo style, she has devoted herself to the refinement of her art. Based in Tokyo, she teaches and mentors the next generation of dancers in Japan. Since 2017, she has expanded her activities to the United States and Europe, appearing at official cultural exchange events, university master classes, and international programs such as Japan Week. This Prague appearance marks her second participation, following the 2024 Eigasai Film Festival.
