SaMurai Vagabond | Kaze no bushi
Japan 1964 | director: KATŌ Tai
Romantic action movie tells story about a challenging journey of a princess kept in secret to her mysterious home in the mountains -a journey that is completely in the hands of unreadable ninjas. This movie is based on a novel by Shiba Ryōtarō, a writer that set most of his stories in Sengoku (15th to 16th century) and Tokugawa (1600-1867) periods. His novels are full of interesting characters and thrilling twists in plots. Director Katō Tai made it a movie where visual richness and beauty is sometimes more appealing then the plot itself. As it is common in movies about ninjas, one can never be certain who the enemy is and who is an ally. In this movie it is no different, but one thing that stands above is love that gives courage to heroic deeds. Main character Nabari Shinzō who is a great swordsman as well as a playboy falls in love with a woman who he knows nothing about – in consequence with his love, he becomes involved into a fight of ninjas who want to conquer a mysterious treasure site. Can Shinzō, himself a skilled ninja, stay on the side and watch when life of his beloved woman is in danger?
